What happened to the 2009 Compendium?

I remember perusing the 4E products index at the WotC site earlier this year and seeing the Dungeon Magazine 2009 Compendium slated for release.

Having just looked it over again, I'm not seeing it. Did it get yanked from production?

I think so, yes. The Dungeon annual never actually appeared on the WotC product page, and Amazon is now listing its status as unknown. My suspicion is thus that it was shelved.

Well this certainly stinks. Since I'm not a DDI subscriber and have better ways to spend what little cash I have, the Compendium was right up my alley.

At least the Dragon Annual is still on the horizon.

Well, according to Amazon Japan, it got pushed back a bit ....

As you can probably expect, I am not holding my breath.

Note: It has actually said this for months, at least 2-3.

Well, I think anything that hurts DDI subscription numbers will be axed.

If compilation books only contained teasers (say made it clear a lot of good articles were excluded) they would make sense (because you would get stuff in printed form, which plenty of people want; while still requiring a DDI account to get all stuff)

The Dragon Annual only has 160 pages, which is a tiny fraction (~10-15%) of the total number of pages in Dragon in a twelve month period. I wouldn't count on the annual to replace a DDI subscription, and that isn't counting Dungeon at all.

It would be better to subscribe to DDI for a month and download all the back issues.
