What happened to the XP names?

The names for each level changed, and will probably change again every so often.
The current names are from monsters in an older edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

I'm sorry you were a ko-bold (?) is it? I have no idea what that is. You should be proud to have been an Umpleby (they are nearly 8 feet tall weight 800lbs and covered in fur giving you a nasty static shock on occasion!) but I see you have already upgraded to Stunjelly (related to the gelatinous cube - now that was a party to remember - a naturally evolved the envious ability to look like a stone wall. This was obviously a development of its desire to mate with gelatinous cubes...). Congrats!

In fact, our admin Plane Sailing created the Stunjelly! I love the Fiend Folio. If you don't, you can blame me for the revised xp names.
Now you're a tirapheg, a three headed, three armed, three legged lame-o monster that only existed to make the other fiend Folio monsters look cooler. Sorry. They get better!

Wow! Ok, now a need to get my hands on that fiend folio! Thanks to everyone that helped me mutate into all those strange creatures and to all of you who shared the precious lore of the fiend folio. I'm happy to be a Flumph now, it seems like a good racial ability to be completely helpless if flipped on to my 'back'.
