What happens if you cast Raise Dead or Resurrection on an undead creature?

It seems nothing happens. In older version these spells worked lkike slay living and destruction (or something like that), but when we looked into this this past weekend we found no evidence of that.

The current rules don't support what you have plainly stated Crothian. It really bothers me because we used the same interpretation as you did when we played 2E. I think it was 2E. Heck, I could be thinking of something else. I need to go to sleep.

Not under the current rules, since now the Raise spells specifically call the soul back to a dead body, and have no effect on an animated or incorporeal corpse. However, those of use who were raised on Final Fantasy are inclined to let it work that way anyhow as a house rule.

I was really disappointed with FFX. I just could not get into it.

I thought FFX was okay, but it just didn't seem like Final Fantasy. To me, the last game that still had the feel was VII. The rest just don't work for me as much. I'm not sure exactly why, if it has to do with the graphics or something else entirely.

Resurrection says it can work on "someone who has been turned into an undead creature and then destroyed." That sure sounds like it doesn't work on an undead creature that's still walking around.

Do they die?

The Raise Dead description covers it. "A creature who has been turned into an undead creature...can't be raised by this spell. Constructs, elemental, outsiders and undead creatures can't be raised."
