What happens to crops that aren't harvested?

Something else to think about... What if the undead-ishness of the ghouls has infected some of the corn? Or what if mutant undead corn is the actual cause behind the ghouls? It would be a perfect opportunity to use Yellow Musk Creepers in the guise of EVIL ZOMBIE CORN!

The way this idea is going, might as well not bother with the rat and crow distraction, as good as those are. It sounds as if the ghouls are rapidly turning into the distraction. :uhoh:

The animated scarecrows would have already harvested all the corn, of course, and will stalk the party in an attempt to drive them away from the silos where they've been stored...

If your players think that the longevity of the corn is abnormal...let the ghouls to be the main enemy here....and after a lot of time, have your players find corn seeds inside undead...in every undead they encounter....I would like to see what they will think THEN!

Especially when they find out that these seeds were sold to the market of the nearest city...:D

What level are the PCs? If they have decent HP, have some giant stag beetles moving into the corn field. Maybe have a ghoul crawling around without its lower half near the beetles to give a hint something big and nasty is in the area.

But don't use this against a low hp group. Stag beetles have an insane damage output for their CR.

Have you been playing Warcraft III? No really, that was their starting plot.

Also, crows.

Crows can and will happen even if there are people there and active. It isn't like there's people watching over every square foot of the stuff 24 hours a day.

That's why they made scarecrows. Not that they helped much...
