D&D 4E What happens to Eberron in 4E? Is it a dead world?

James Wyatt has discussed the plans for Eberron in 4E since the 4E announcement (as has Keith, although his info is second hand and somewhat speculation), although nothing recently*. It has also been mentioned that it will receive regular support in DDI.

There isn't a firm date for the release. It's generally assumed that it will be the setting released in 2009. Given that they have clearly been discussing the 4E Eberron approach, I would be very surprised, and disappointed, if it was released later than 2009.

I've debated what I'm going to do for that year. I might stick with a 3.5 Eberron game until the 4E version releases. I might run a 4E version if 4E has enough Eberron support that I don't have to design much of the system for it. I might run FR for a year or so. That's close to the order I expect them to happen.

* In fact, James is one of the handful of people who haven't continued their blog into Gleemax. Others have dropped to almost nothing, but he doesn't appear to have one at all. His old blog has a bunch of stuff.

I have no idea why anyone would think it would become a dead world like Greyhawk or Mystara. They've already said it will be the second setting released for 4E.

I'm surprised that a regular on Enworld would even ask this...I thought this (4e Eberron) was common knowledge.

Then again there are things I haven't paid attention to...so hey

It's possible he may have meant, "What happens to Eberron when 4e is released, while we are waiting for something official to come out?"

When is the campaign guide scheduled for anyway? And during the 6-9 months we are waiting, will we have guidelines, interim books, articles, conversion docs for our 3.5 books, or anything else?

The monster manual is going to have PC race writeups of several races, including gnomes. I would be very surprised if the MM1 didn't have PC race writeups for all the Eberron races (except maybe Kalashtar).

Indeed, at GenCon they mentioned that they were considering have the changeling being one of the PHB I races. Shifters might get a pass, especially if they are designed to be as focused on feats (or some 4E variation) as they are now. That would just require too much space.

I thought Shifters were in the MM1 for sure
