What has been your geekiest moment?

Heh...the 40yr old Virgin. I'd been in the midst of a week long miniature-painting jag at the time, and my wife had been lucky to pry me away from them long enough to watch that movie with her. So when the scene came up where he was painting his minis and talking to them, she laughed pretty loud.

I said, "hey, I'm living proof that the cool guys have those kind of hobbies too."

She patted my hand and said "whatever you say, dear"

See? She knows I'm cool.

Two weeks ago I had my geekiest day...in the afternoon I was playing my Eberron Campaign with two friends, after that we and another friend went to see Superman Returns...after that we spent late evening playing BANG! and, after that we were at our cars talking about what was wrong with Wonder Woman's costume...at 2 o'clock in the night. :o

The other night, I'm about half an hour into driving home from a game when I realize I'd left my miniature and dice cases on top of my car. I died a little inside... It was then that I fully accepted my geekdom. On the brightside, the dm braved light early morning traffic in the intersection where the dice had crashed to rescue them. No sign of the mini's case, however. I'm still in the middle of tabulating the casualties...

That is heartbreaking! I would cry if I lost my minis like that. :(

My geek moment was also during the 40 Year Old Virgin. While he is painting minis, I turned to my boyfriend and exclaimed, "He didn't prime them first!!!" He was appalled that I noticed that. Later, I told that story to my gaming group. They were similarly appalled by my geekness. :)

Another good moment - getting caught watching the video of Stephen Colbert on The Late Show with Conan O'Brien at work. I have a very loud laugh and my co-workers wanted to see what was so damn funny. They like Stephen Colbert, too, but explaining what I was laughing at specifically was very uncomfortable.

i went into the basement and pulled my Steve Austin action figure with Bionic Eye out of the storage box and showed it to my wife after seeing that movie.

God, I had one of those. <thumbsup> :D

I took my D&D dice bag to college every week for a semester and used the dice to assign roles for people when teaching my European Drama class. Got all my non-geek students hooked on rolling funny-shaped dice :)

My gf laughed at me when that scene came on also. The thing is, I don't even paint minis, I just collect pre-painted DDM's! I told her, "Hey, I'm not THAT geeky!" So I guess you have me beat :p

I can't say I really have any geeky moments...I try to make being a gamer seem cool ;)

But there are the times when each new DDM set comes out and I have 3 opened cases of miniatures all around me while I'm sitting in the middle of them sorting through all of my new stash. My gf likes to make fun of me when she sees my hoard all around me like that. Who cares though, it could be empty beer bottles all around me, so she's a lucky girl :p

My friend and I shared a geek moment as we and our non-nerd girlfriends were leaving the theatre after watching The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I (a comic book nerd) was explaining to my girlfriend that the framed Fantastic Four comic book that the main character had on his wall made no sense because it was a recent issue with nothing significant. "I have that comic. It was nothing. No one would ever frame it." As I started to explain further I heard my friend (a video gaming nerd) explain to his girlfriend how fake the movie was. Because the television showed the main character's friends as playing Mortal Combat but they were using PlayStation controllers. "Plus, they were just hitting buttons. The finishing moves are much more complex than that." Once we heard what each other were talking about, I wondered, "How do we even have girlfriends??"
I guess this explains why she always flees whenever we come over to game, no?

Now I really know why I like you, B!!

My fiancee and I live in a perpetual geek moment. We talk in gamerspeak constantly. We can't just drop something; we fail our Dex checks. We don't have conversations, we have zero-phase soliloquies.

At work, I have to set up test cases on a database to test my code against. My newest test case is called Fairies, Elves & Dragons, Oh My, Inc. Their affiliate is Underhill, Inc. Their administrator is Mr. Frodo Baggins. ;)

To top off my geekiness, for the past year or so I've been slowly trying to teach myself the fictional Sindarin language from LOTR. But at least I'm not as geeky as the guy who wrote a scholarly book - published by a university press - about the history and vocabulary of Sindarin. :D
