What holidays (celebrations) do you use?

I use a Calendar of 12 Months of 30 days each (ie 360 Days) plus a 5 day festival held at New Years to bring the year to 365 days so:

New Years (a intercalendular 5 day festival held Mid winter to mark the 'stirring of the seeds in the ground'. This festival includes various sporting competitons and villages gather from miles around.)

The Equinoxes and Solstices are marked

the 14th -16th days of each month (the nights of the full moon) are Holy Days

Harvest Festival held after the harvests are collected (and the portion has been paid into the Royal store)

do you have weeks? days? hours? minutes and such?

the current calendar we use is 4 seven day weeks for 13 months. and 1 day in the middle of Summer as a feast day. 4*7*13 + 1 =365

and every 4 years the moon and stars align to give us 1 more day.

makes it easy for the players that way. ;)

Nope my world uses a Lunar Calendar with a cycle measured from New moon to New Moon (hence full moon days 14 - 16) - if a division is needed I might say a week is 15 days with 2 weeks per month. Each night (rather than day) is named for the associated phase of the moon (so first day/night Firo translates to 'New moon' then Cresent..quarter..gibbous..full etc'

I don't use hours or minutes instead my days are divided into sunset-fullnight-midnight - predawn-dawn-full-day (when the son is at a 45 degree angle)-noon-afternoon-sunset

So one might say "I will meet you tomorrow when the full-day starts"

new question then...

do you let the players use rounds and such in combat to time their PC's actions?

since i referee OD&D we use rounds and turns in place of minutes and such... but it still gives the players an idea of how long things will last in combat...

and out of combat rounds and turns are part of the vernicular of everyday speech too.
