What I Learned Switching to Reddit For A Bit

aka Ian Eller
As some folks may know, I feel the need to take little breaks from EN World every once in a while. It is a "It's not you, it's me" situation (except when it is definitely you), but even so.

Anyway, despite the need for these breaks, I must have gaming discussions and such in my life. And I am trying to to atrophy into a boomer as I get older, so I often go to reddit where the kids are to stay hip to the jive talk.

What I have learned is that while I can give or take certain aspects of reddit and its users, what I really don't like is the uncontrollably ephemeral nature of discussions there. They just disappear. One thing I really enjoy about EN World is that some discussions can literally stay around for years. And you get to know posters, at least by their EN World personas. Threads in reddit just disappear into the mist too fast for me.

Anyway. I'm back for the time being.

And when it comes to Reddit, I think even that is skewing older than before. I think the really young ones are all on Discord. Now THAT is were conversations just disappear into thin air in seconds!
It seems, people below 30 are still the majority on Reddit (Reddit User Age, Gender, & Demographics (2025)). Yet, there also seems to be a fair amount of Millennials and Gen Xers, there. Especially in the RPG subreddits, I have the impression that there's quite a few people who have been playing for a longer time already.
The average age is probably still a bit lower than here on ENWorld, but not that much.
I think that's because it's still largely Millennials, and they're the thirty-something cohort now.
Oldest Millennials are mid-forties. We, too, have grey hair now ;)
