D&D 4E What If?: Greyhawk 4e in 2012

If WotC was to remake Greyhawk as the next 4e campaign setting to be released in 2012, how would you want it done?

Would you want WotC to go old school and go back to Gygax's original version of Greyhawk, but with the new elements of 4e worked into the setting (i.e. dragonborn, warlocks, etc)?

Would you want WotC to go old school and stay completely true to the original vision of Greyhawk?

Would you want WotC to set it after the time of the Greyhawk Wars as per From the Ashes? Or perhaps just before the Greyhawk Wars?

Would you want WotC to set it after the events of Living Greyhawk and the work that Paizo did in Dragon and Dungeon Magazine?

Would you want WotC to do to it what they did to the Forgotten Realms? (I had to ask for completeness.)

Would you want WotC to completely reboot the setting with a complete overhaul of the history and canon of the setting? Basically a Greyhawk 2.0.

Also...

What would you like the other two Greyhawk books to be? A creature catalog like Dark Sun got? A city book that completely details the City of Greyhawk? An adventure? A players' book?

Just stirring the pot...

Disclamer: The Nine Hells will freeze over first. I know this, but to answer the question posited by the OP...

I would like to see Greyhawk 2.0 al la the reboot of the Battlestar Galactica on SyFy channel.

My two coppers,

I don't care, I would fight rabid dire shrimp armed with knitting needles and sharpened ice-cream scoops for a 4e Greyhawk setting.

Bring 'em on.

I'd like to see it continue on from Living Greyhawk. Lots of GREAT work was done in advancing the world in that campaign. I can assure you, such a treat would bring the grognards back from Pathfinder and on to play 4E. This might be "the project" that finally breathes fresh life into D&D 4E (which I love by the way).

Agreed. Between the Nentir Vale and the Forgotten Realms, there really doesn't seem to be any room for Greyhawk.

I would agree with this. This would probably also be my preferred option for doing Dragonlance 4e, FWIW.

This would be my choice, as I have no experience with anything that came afterwards in Greyhawk. I didn't do any of the War stuff, nor Living Greyhawk.

This, but keep some of the new toys to a minimum.

Greyhawk can distinguish itself from FR and the other settings by emphasizing its Sword & Sorcery roots.
I think I'd prefer a modified Classic EGG version as well although I could get behind a version based on From the Ashes, which is one of my favorite Greyhawk eras.

Absolutely this. I'd probably still buy it if they continued the post-EGG timeline, but I'd much rather a reboot back to his original vision.

I don't think a creature catalog would be necessary. After all, most of the monster manual stuff originated with Greyhawk.

But the format I'd most like to see wouldn't be print, but instead would be available via DDI. I say this because, as others have noted, the chances of Greyhawk getting a print treatment are between slim and none, and slim done left town. But a digital edition, now that would be something doable. It could be D&D's first official all-online feature-complete online setting, and I think could really draw people in to DDI if it were done well.
