This is the first time I have ever heard DS referred to as "ahead of its time." That's strikes me as odd, given that at the time it seemed intentionally backward looking toward the S&S themes of yore, as a response to the modern fantasies of DL and FR.

Because Fallout is popular. Even though logically that would lead to a 5e Gamma World (7e Gamma World?).

IIRC it's because they couldn't get GURPS, not Gamma World.

If by "us" you mean the developed west, maybe, but people around the world were dealing with totalitarianism and climate disaster during the Hall and Oates years, they were just brown.

I never played it, but I think Wake of the Ravager has a pretty good reputation among old school RPG fans. Certainly not as big as Baldurs Gate, but I'd say that Dark Sun had a few video game adaptations that cemented the setting as unique (as opposed to the few Greyhawk video games which are just kinda flavorless).

As far as Darksun goes I think the novels has the bigger impact.

Voted Other for totally self desire reasons: I want to see a 5.24 work up of the L series starting with Secret of Bone Hill as a tier 1 sandbox like how they did the Saltmarsh U series.

I voted other because I hope we get something new. I guess if it has to be one of those options Ebberon would be ok for an epic 1-20 campagin.
