Was Planescape or Spelljammer or Dragonlance a "big adventure?" My point is the definition has certainly shifted. That the Thay adventure is not a $60 adventure doesn't mean that it isn't THIS YEAR'S "big adventure."
There is also the consideration of their organized play plans, though we don't have many details yet. The Ravenloft Setting Book, this book pair, and whatever is coming in Winter are serving the same purpose the big storyline campaigns did in early 5E.

Dragonlance, yes, the other two, no. Not every release is a big adventure book, that was true then just as much as it is now...

2014: Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Rise of Tiamat
2015: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss
2016: Curse of Strahd, Storm King’s Thunder
2017: Tomb of Annihilation
2018: Dungeon of the Mad Mage
2019: Descent into Avernus
2020: Rime of the Frostmaiden
2021: The Wild Beyond the Witchlight
2022: Shadow of the Dragon Queen
2023: Tyranny of Dragons, The Shattered Obelisk
2024: Vecna Eve of Ruin
2025: nothing
2026: nothing that so far was announced

It's really not that hard...

You want to use a very narrow definition that actually goes against the whole point of discussion. B&G can (and are) make a Platinum Edition of things that you decided are not "big adventures." That is the case here as well.

I guess they need to release something and if that is all that WotC got… it’s not like all their previous offerings were for ‘big adventures’ either

They are making a box for Ravenloft too and I don’t think anyone is considering this to be a big adventure, not even you

Let’s turn this around, at what point does this cease to be a big adventure for you? 64 pages and a range of 5 levels, is that still a big adventure or is it then simply the only adventure of 2026?

IIRC they only make platinum editions for adventures.

Deadfall is the next big adventure.

I'm not claiming it will be the only adventure this year, or even the biggest adventure.

But I am confident it is the new format for adventures for 5.5E.

And guess what? It's basically the same as 5E. Because the 5E adventures were actually adventure + campaign setting combined in one book. Tomb of Annihilation doubled as the Chult campaign setting, Dragon Heist as Waterdeep, Rime of the Frost Maiden as Icewind Dale, etc. In 5.5E, it appears the campaign settings are now being published as standalone books. The result is the adventure books will be shorter and cheaper.

Is this really a change worth getting worked up over? I don't think so.

not sure anyone is getting worked up over it. If this ends up being 160 pages and levels 1-12 then it is a big adventure, if it is 80 pages and levels 7-12 then it is not. Given the price point I expect the latter, that is all there is to it

Probably a good thing.
