  • I would pay $5 more for that book just because __________ wrote it

  • I look at each item and decide, author and company means nothing to me

Product is the most important thing to me.

It based on the game I will be playing

It needs to be playtested.

It needs to cover the rules used.

It needs to be affordable.

And it needs good customer relations/ support.

I never plan on buying anything by THG. Thanks to a bad experience I had.

- and the book must be in the range of typical page/$ ratio I am used to. ( I passed on the "Aerial Adventure Guide" because of this )
I didn't buy Soldier/Wheelman Class Guide for Spycraft by Alderac Entertainment Group because of the price.
$24.95 for 104 black and white pages.
I'm hoping someone will review this product to convince me to purchase it.

Peace and smiles :)

reviews baby! That's where it is for me. I can wait a month or 3 or 4 and read the reviews before I plunk down some money for an RPG product.

Don't worry Hal. I'm still buying from you. :)

As for whe else I buy and why. It's simple reason. I do it for my own personal and whimscy reasons. ;)

Btw Buzz, there was no playtest review for the first R&R. It's still a good book, just as R&R2.

I buy on a few criteria:
I buy if it's written by Gary Gygax
I buy if it's written by Monte Cook
I buy if it's got WotC's D&D logo on it (though not Forgotten Realms stuff - ptooey)
I buy if it's Kingdoms of Kalamar
Used to be that way about gygax. Then got burnt. Now I read the reviews. I have bought stuff by him since my bad experience, and have been happy with the purchases that I have made based on reviews.

Again, the reviews have been very helpful to me. I try to read at least 3 for each product, and if i can, read reviews of products that I own by the same reviewers to see if we are "eye to eye". That, and many grains of salt, when reading the reviews have helped me out a ton.

It you would e-mail me offlist about this experience, I would like to hear about it (if I have not already heard) not that I can convince you one way or another, but always like to hear about improving ourselves. My e-mail is below.

In a first stage I would only buy a product if I like it, if it fullfills my creteria. But after a few products (and all are atleast oke or better) I would buy blindly from that company, till I get to much junk.

A good example is Mongoose in this, they started out oke with they're arcana and slayers serie, but at the moment the quint came out the slayers dropped also in quality. Now I buy not much any more from Mongoose, almost everything is junk except a few arcana books.

Author means nothing for me, mybe even the oposite, they start with a line of products and can after a while not come up with new and interesting things. In the end you buy 10 times the same product, just with a new title.
