What is 'Quick Reconnoiter' used for?

Really, the +2 to initiative is nice, but otherwise, what' up with afree action to spot and listen?
If you are trying to locate an invisibile opponent wasting a move action to make a listen or a spot check can be annoying.

It's probably as useful as you make it. If you're constantly asking to make checks, pretty soon your DM will get the idea and let you make checks before every potential ambush/event.

Something I learned from First edition is going first is very helpful. If I am not mistaken, it stacks with improved inititive.

Granted on all fronts; but that's all I could come up with, too. But Spoting an Invisible opponent is nearly a waste of time, even if it is Free.

Going first is always, always good.

If you're dying to an invisible opponent, then its always worth it, even if it took a fullround action to locate him !
Very nifty feat this.

Arguably, if everyone else gets a spot check to participate in a surprise round, a character with this feat should get two. The normal one everyone gets, and the free one.

In RAW, Quick Reconnoiter is a great feat. Spot and Listen checks are move actions. You don't get them for free in combat, and you can't make them while taking a double move or running.

Most games I've played in, however, tend to ignore those rules to some degree - making the feat somewhat less worthwhile. I'd suggest talking it over with your DM before taking it.

You've only got about half the rule there. Spot is frequently but not always a move action.

Action
Varies. Every time you have a chance to spot something in a reactive manner you can make a Spot check without using an action. Trying to spot something you failed to see previously is a move action.
