TN (with lawful tendencies)

I see that diety as TN.
(as most nature dieties should be)

As the god of the natural order of things, morality shouldn't need to have a place in its portfolio.

By its own nature, said diety should be benevolent at some times, and also malevolent at others. And because its actions cannot be judged on a moral scale, Neutral is the best fit.

By the same rationale, life is chaotic. However, as this diety has dominion over the order of things (life while chaotic, is still structured) they should have lawful tendencies. I feel that Lawful Neutral is a little bit too extreme, but True Neutral (with Lawful Tendencies) fits better.

In stating the above, I'd even go as far as to say, that the diety's priests shouldn't be limited by alignment. (seeing as all alignments have their place in the natural order of things)

That's very debatable when it comes to animals in RL (many animals are more likely to sacrifice themselves to benefit the group than most humans, which is pushing LG from the D&D perspective

Yeah, well, animals in RL are also far more likely to eat their own young, too, so we see how LG they really are :)

The moral content of animal altruism is debatable, at best. The vast majority of the time, it can be linked to an attempt to gain advantage to the animal's own genetic line, making it "selfish" behavior. However, that's a pretty deep subject that wanders into off-topicness...

More to the point, you can't take a single behavior, and use it as justification to call a critter a particular alignment. Alignment is the long term avarage of all behavior. Isolated incidents are generally insufficient to determine alignment.
