For the purposes of this poll, consider the term DWARVES to mean a conglomeration of all the dwarves (except the grey dwarves, duergar, and derro) from the campaign settings of:

AL-QADIM
Birthright
Dark Sun
Dragonlance
Forgotten Realms
Greyhawk
Lanhkmar (if applicable)
Mystara
Oriental Adventures
Planescape
Ravenloft
Red Steel
Spelljammer

okay taking a stab at it I would absolutely none and all are true, in all settings different types of dwarves with different behaviour is described, one way or another you can find one race which fits the bill, so dwarves would in the end end up being pretty much neutral like humans are, well in my humble opinion.

BTW nice to spot you again on the boards my friend!

Most Dwarves ~ usually lawful good.
Deep Dwarves ~ usually lawful neutral, or neutral.
Derro ~ usually chaotic evil.
Duergar ~ usually lawful evil.

*cough* booyah. Monsterous Manual strikes again.

Grrrrr... like I said last time, this just doesn't work!

Oriental Adventures

In this case, that is what breaks it worse than anything else. OA dwarves are a completely different genus than normal dwarves.

I voted chaotic evil, just because.

After all, someone has to write "mickey mouse" in for every election, don't they?

Heck, in that case, I vote for mickey mouse.

There were 150 votes on the Elven Poll.
This poll has only 48 votes so far.

That, in itself, tends to indicate to me that dwarves are less interesting to players in general, and such has been my impression for a long time.

However, this poll deserves a chance, and without more input (Number Five alive!) it won't be relevant.

And yes, my first introduction to dwarves WAS in the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

They were most DEFINITELY Good aligned, although they ranged the gamut from Lawful to Chaotic.

Incidentally, my first introduction to elves was ... well, if you cannot guess, you must be asleep from October 1st through January 15th!
However, my first look at D&D type elves was in the Hobbit, when the Company first came to Rivendell and met the Noldor - a strong impression I carried away from that time to this day.

As for gnomes ... my first look at gnomes came from Wagner's Der Ring Des Nibelungen.
The gnomes there weren't very nice folk at all; they had a most decidedly neutralish feel, with many being strongly evil.
For they were the Nibelungen of the Lower Earth.

I first learned the term halfling from LOTR.
I first learned the term hobbit from FOTR.

Half elf? LOTR.

Kender? From German class.

Draconian? From Political Science class.

Dragon? I don't remember, but it was in the 2nd grade or earlier.
