What is the general alignment of kender?

Please a race of happy go lucky thieves who DON'T know they stealing. And not one town council has ordered them shot on sight.
It was a nice idea of character but if I was a town mayor a 2 copper piece bounty for each one taken inside the city. Their heads would be displayed on the cities walls as a warning to keep out.

Off the top of my head, I'd say Chaotic Neutral. But looking at the definitions of the alignments, I think "Chaotic Evil" actually fits the bill pretty closely.

So all those kender-haters out there (and we are legion!) now have a good reason to kill them in nasty ways!

Chaotic-Evil - chaotic beings with no regard for others' property.

More seriously, for people who consider them tolerable: Just imagine if there were such creatures in our world - would we suffer them? I say we would lock them up or ban them from civilized society. We don't let kleptomaniacs run free, do we?

IMC, kenders will not be protected by some author - you steal, you get persecuted by the full force of the law. But then I tend to use what I remember from law history to structure the legal system of my countries, not my modern knowledge and views.

I am tempted to introduce a kender NPC in my FR campaign just so that the PCs can "bring that thief to justice" without Hickman interfering.

I must say, I believe the reason that kender are not treated quite as harshly as some want is because doing so would be seen as an act of war on Kendermore and Hylo, and starting wars that easily avoided is frowned upon. Not to mention the fact that kender are favored by Paladine, and many silver dragons, and the existence of kendragons helps kender a great deal.

I would say True Neutral, but not for the reasons given in the poll. Morelike, they are neutral in the sense that all non-magical, non-sentient animals are neutral.

Chaotic Neutral. In their mind, there's nothin wrong with 'sharing' other people's belongings. However, they're oblivious to the fact that it does cause harm in some instances. That's why I say Neutral, rather than Evil... they don't intend to cause harm, they just seem incapable of understanding why it would cause harm.

I think Chaotic is obvious, however.
