Though I voted just for LotR, I wished I'd also voted other and included Heavenly Creatures too as that is a really good movie. Bit scary how much of the NZ film industry consists of Peter Jackson.

This is all about "New Zealand's dirty little secret", the quashing down of the Maori culture, something that continues to this day. Even while promoting the imagery of the Maori for the sake of tourism, the peoples and the culture has been all but obliterated. Brilliant, dangerous, breathtaking film.

Seconded. This is an incredible and extremely moving film.

Tonguez, you missed Forgotten Silver, Sleeping Dogs, Illustrious Energy, Footrot Flats...

Oh, wait, international movie...

I'm really going to have to go with "Principles of Agribusiness-Successful Sheep Ranching Volume 4: Ideal Feed Mixtures, Seasonal". Some riveting filmmaking there.
You're now on The List, kaos. You'll be the first up against the shearing shed- wall! I meant wall!... when the revolution comes.

We had to do something with all that weight he lost. Mini-Peters!

Peter Jackson pretty much IS the NZ film industry (well at least its godfather) - what with Weta and the new sound stages he's built in Wellington. Of course NZ also has a huge number of talented directors operating both here and overseas

and yes Narnia was filmed in NZ, one of the comments made by the production crew was that LoTR had already taken the best locations (but then NZ has so many great locations too)
