What is the Hardness of leather?

The Hardness of leather (per inch of thickness) seems to be left out of the Player's Handbook for some reason (and any other sourcebook I have checked).

Does anybody have a bead on the official value?

I'd think that leather has no hardness.

Unless cows have DR in your world...

While it may come from a cow, leather is treated and stiffened afterwards (before making it into armor).

If glass has a Hardness of 1, then leather has got to be more than 0.

Are we talking about hard-boiled leather or treated leather?

Padded, leather, and studded leather armor is what I'm thinking about.

Well, there doesn't seem to be a hardness given for it that I've seen, so maybe give it a two or best guess.

I did a find word search through the Main D&D FAQ...

...and actually found an answer on page 26.

"As an object, armor has a hardness appropriate to its construction: 10 for metal, 5 for leather or hide, and 0 for padded armor. (Treat studded leather as leather.) Armor has 5 hit points per point of armor bonus the armor provides."

A hardness of 5 makes more sense to me for leather that is made into armor. But for regular untreated leathers, I would probably rule a hardness of 3.
