What is the minimum level would you play if you were never to gain xp again?

Please read my post first. What level would you play if you never gained xp again?

i've never actually played 2e dnd but from what i read here it sounds that getting to higher levels was a long and hard task. this looks in a way much more realistic then 3e where you get up in levels reletively fast (to months in game and you're already 10th level). after all advancing from near perfect to perfect is much much harder then progressing from newbie to avarge. i think it should take someone a few years to become such a good swordsman that he is able to take out opponents 10 times his size.

Sixth.

For all the reasons listed. Though, I'd be tempted in any campaign to allow 1 level of increase at some point. The anticipation of gaining access to 4th level spells as a Wizard (an not just on a scroll).... Allows for the possibility of taking a character in a whole new direction.

I like this idea, but then I start most of my campaigns at 5th level, no xp. i.e a long xp path to 6th level and I tend to cap out aroun 9th lelvel.

7th level.

I'd enjoy the freedom of 9th-11th more, but 7th level is the minumum to feel safe from a single bad roll and to take on serious challanges.

Ninth level, for the reasons listed above.

It would have to be a very interesting game with lots of role-playing and opportunities for in-game advancement (ranks, titles, lands, etc.) to keep me interested, though. A fair amount of my enjoyment for the game comes from watching my character get tougher and take on the bigger, more epic challenges, so there would have to be something else in there to compensate.

I voted 12, but anything in the 9-12 range would be okay; certainly I wouldn't want to be stuck without teleport available and the major class abilities generally are all there by level 12 or so.

4th.
Probably because when designing stock NPCs in Aquerra 4th level is my "better than most everybody around for miles" gauge for level.
