D&D 4E What is the spirit of 4e?

Well, the spirit of 4e is a rather nebulous subject. Its much easier to use the case in point to explain how that violates the spirit of 4e than to give enough information in general about "the spirit of 4e" for Beta to have enough information to revise his character class.

I think that taking a warlock and keeping all of the numbers and stats intact and completely re-writing the descriptions to fit your battle mechanic artificer's intent (with steampunk weaponry ) is the best route for what you want.

ah burntgerbil elaborate please b/c i am interested to hear your opinion on this. a warlock honestly didn't cross my mind and i'm still interested in a steampunk character Beta. don't let talk of D&D being a "high fantasy game" b/c D&D is rlly w/e the players want it to be. if i wanted something to play that i couldn't edit or change the rules and gameplay w/ i'd play WoW all the time.

as for the "flavor" of 4e it's almost like they tried to mix all of the editions w/ modern games (like WoW), but the edition also seems about rules balance IMO
