What Is This?

Let's see what our creativity can sprout, shall we? Take a look at this pic. What is it? What is it's history? What kind of lore can you place on this to make it something interesting found in your next game?

The pic can be deceiving. Is it a belt or girdle? Maybe it's a headband? Or, a leather ring? Leather wrist bracelet? You can wrap it around your thigh? Or bicep?

The Eye of Panoptes: this magically preserved eye of a titan set in a leather headband sees in total- even magical- darkness and can peer into the astral and ethereal planes. A creature wearing it is considered to be awake and alert even if asleep for noticing what is in the Eye's field of vision. (60deg. arc, out to 120')

Belt of the beholder. Projects an anti magic cone in front of the wearer of 60'. Contains the central eye of a beholder.

That, good sir, is the Band of Ewegross, originally created by the Necromancer Ewegross in his younger days, during a period when his scrawny frame and lack of a Charisma modifier led to him feeling people didn't take him seriously. He discarded it after the famed "Battle of the Squidge", wherein his display of raw power solidified his reputation (and the depredation of the magics he used had suitably dimmed his pallor to the proper shade of sullen grey).

Much as people expect otherwise, the Band of Ewegross is not magical. Wearing it (wherever on your body you choose) gives an entirely mundane +/- 2 circumstance bonus to social skill checks, in cases where appearing to be they kind of guy that'd mess around with people's eyeballs would have an impact, for good or ill.
