What is with these crappy Video Games?

NWN1 was a great storyline.

I suppose it is a personal thing perhaps. NWN 2 had appawling controls. I had to keep adjusting the Camera to even move around, awful controls - simply dire!

3D can hurt D&D a little but only if the perspectives and cameras are well done. In 3D you want to be able to see the walls, it increases immersion but it needs to be fluid so that when you are moving the Camera it doesnt feel like an extra action, it is something you can do almost subconciously

The controls and camera were worked on for NwN 2 during several rather large patches and by the time they released Mask of the Betrayer, it was much better. Also, Mask is was lauded as one of the best RPG's of the year.

I can see how the first impressions of the game when it was released would turn off someone though. I've been in several Betas, so those problems never really put me off a game, as long as they get patched. It doesn't excuse the developers of course.

And yeah, though some may consider the story for NWN 1 good, many consider the NwN 1 storyline to be rather shallow. It didn't help that a lot of plot points and side quests were gutted because of time. Nor did it help that many of the companions you had to choose from were rather forgettable. I still liked the story and overall plot though.

The Expansions for NWN 1 improved on both story and npc's greatly though.
The Temple of Elemental Evil is a great game (once patched). And is the best representation of the 3rd edition's combat system. It's not big on the story and role-playing aspect though.

The next big D&D game coming out is Neverwinter. I'm honestly hoping for a decent game. But I wouldn't be too surprised if it was terrible. Still, several people at the office are anxious to get their hands on a demo to try out. Here's hoping for the best. :)
