Slayers! -- excellent, hilarious, all-around good.

There's other anime that I like, but not particularly RPG-inspired.

Hmm, I'm not big into anime, though I'm a fan manga (the two are different enough for me to be considered different genres, even if most series exist in both media).

Can't say I've ever run across a manga or anime that seemed particular "RPG-y" to me.

However, the manga I enjoy most are perfect examples for what is good fantasy to me (One Piece, Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist). And I've taken lots of inspiration from it.

What twigs some people surprises me, but I'll say this much: I am very hot and cold on Anime. Some of it I find deep, intriguing, and inspiring. Others bore me. (Nausicaa is an example of a much ballyhooed anime that I'll admit even had cool ideas... it just bored me. Which sort of surprised my, because I generally like Miyazaki.)

Oh I agree, anime is art, and like other artworks people may get and/or find a deep connection with and others just don't get it. I tell people that don't watch anime and are confused as to what it's about and I simply tell them "Give anime a chance and depending on who you are you may find the right anime series style that hits home with you. There's an anime series and style out there for everyone." If you're a pervert, hentai's for you, if you like corky stuff then Ranma 1/2, if you like action then DBZ or Naruto is for you, if you like deep storytelling and character then Naruto, Berserk, and Cowboy Bepop is another.

Which, true story, I knew this girl who just plain hated anime (anything animated, actually) and last year I hear she's suddenly watching anime series. Strange, because she was so adamant about never watching anime and here she is watching Full Metal Alchemist, BLEACH, and a couple of others hardcore.

Both the Record of Lodoss Wars and Slayers manga first appeared in the Japanese edition of Dragon Magazine

Though it has the same name, it has nothing to do with the D&D 'Dragon Magazine'.

For D&D-inspired anime, Record of Lodoss War, Rune Soldier Louie, and Ruin Explorers are directly based on D&D, with Slayers and Those Who Hunt Elves as parodies.

I'd assume that this is true of all but the most undiscerning viewers. Like most media, some anime is really good, some is really bad, and a lot of it is completely uninteresting.

In that respect, it's not any different than, say, American film and television.
