What drives you forward, gives you a motivation to go and keep living? Not touching on suicide here, just a will to live and not simply exist.

Seriously? because at times between D&D i find that besides work, i need someone else as well to keep me moving in life.

Me. I worked out a long time ago that it didn't make sense to count on things outside myself for mental and emotional sustenance, since they are often transient and beyond my control. The one thing in my life that I know will always be there is myself, so I made myself exactly the kind of person I think I should be. So what gives me sustenance and makes every day a joy for me is the knowledge that I will spend it being who I want to be, doing what I want to do, and existing in a world which is fascinating and challenging, if only because I make it so. Yes, it actually IS all about me :D

Just 'cause. Things aren't gonig all that badly, pretty well actually if you start thinking about some other countries in the world. Fear of not living.
Those 3 reasons in that order.

Three things:
1) Community. This includes my family and my friends, and the delight I experience spending time with them. I include some nonhuman critters in this community.
2) Beauty. Not just, or even especially, visual beauty, but the delight of fresh peach pie, of well-played music, or even of a well-turned phrase or exciting D&D adventure.
3) Moderating this messageboard, e.g., moving threads to the off-topic forum. edit: Curses! Some other moderator has already taken this joy from me!

My family comes first. My wife and my son are why I do what I do.

But I also find inspiration in the wisdom of those that came before me.

Believe nothing merely because you have been told it.
Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher.
But whatever, after due examination and analysis,
you find to be kind, conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings -
that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide.

Practice for the New Millennium

1. Spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each day remembering we all want the same things (to be happy and be loved) and we are all connected to one another.

2. Spend 5 minutes breathing in, cherishing yourself; and, breathing out cherishing others. If you think about people you have difficulty cherishing, extend your cherishing to them anyway.

3. During the day extend that attitude to everyone you meet. Practice cherishing the "simplest" person (clerks, attendants, etc) or people you dislike.

4. Continue this practice no matter what happens or what anyone does to you.

These thoughts are very simple, inspiring and helpful. The practice of cherishing can be taken very deeply if done wordlessly, allowing yourself to feel the love and appreciation that already exists in your heart.
