I want to see Dark Sun for 4E. I think the flavor, the psionics, and much of the setting's mechanics would meld really nicely with 4E.

And, no, I am not kidding. I don't know that I like either Dark Sun or 4E alone, but together? I would like to play in that!

For sure, its IS MADE OF POL.

There is few worlds PoL-like as Dark Sun.

Funny ... I want neither the overstuffed megalomania of FR or Greyhawk nor Dark Sun exoticism. I want mainstream: Standard 4e classes and races and monsters on a predominantly heroic-level world.

The closest an official setting has come to my ideal was the first edition of Dragonlance: A sensible selection of standard fantasy elements, some minor tweaks, managable size and level range. Density and depth.

I really want nothing more than a small, detailed campaign world that delivers well and coherently on the standard medieval (low-) fantasy tropes. Because in 20 years of roleplaying, I've never seen it done well.

Actually, I wonder why that is ...

I agree that campaign settings should be tighter (in theme, what's available etc).

I also like frozen timelines - no Faction War and Prism Pentad etc nonsense to instantly destroy what was originally cool about a campaign setting.

And also, I think a glut of product for a campaign setting can pollute it and make it less robust.

I would like a setting which is a mold between Forgotten Realms and Eberron.
A high magic setting where magic is part of the society and not tacked on a generic medival world like FR but not this "Lets take real world things and say they work through magic like trains etc." ripoff like Eberron.

Also the PoL "Setting" in the core books looks also interesting. It shouldn't be a full setting but it can certainly be expanded upon by region books which describe a typical fantasy region in detail without giving a map or say whats around this region.

I don't want to see any settings.

I'm 100% on-board with the 4e/1e idea of presenting flavorful, iconic locations, items and NPCs that are not tied to any specific setting, but are simply assumed to fit somewhere into the D&D "assumed" setting, to be used as individual groups see fit. This kind of stuff is far more useful to me than yet another setting bible where all of the creative work has been done already.

Seriously, I have a stack of Eberron books, Pathfinder books, a copy of the LGG, a copy of Ptolus, and a copy of Midnight 2e. The last thing I need is yet another pseudo-medieval phonebook to read.

Any new setting would have to be very compelling to change my mind.

This is a good point, and I haven't really thought of it this way... But I am a setting freak and collect them like stamps. I really don't need another big book to read, I already have a lot, so I am hoping for a 4e Golarion (Pathfinder) or taking a look at 4e FR for the first time in a long time.

I have most of the 3.x FR books, but I was always too daunted by the load of history and canon to actually run it.

I'd like to see a 4e Oathbound or Scarred Lands, though too.

Dark Sun, Midnight, Iron Kingdoms, even Spelljammer are examples of things I'd like to see more of.

I want me a Planescape campaign that doesn't worry about the Great Wheel, that's heavily centered in Sigil, that embraces some of the Victorian steampunk/spellpunk atmosphere, and that is in love with exploration and possibility.

In fact, this is likely going to be my first 4e game.

But I agree. And I agree with Ruin Explorer, too, that the various 'cultural splats,' while EXCELLENT, aren't really totally fresh. I'd like to see them integrated wierdly into other settings -- a Nyambe as a part of Dark Sun, an Oriental people as part of Iron Kingdoms, a colonial Northern Crown feeling for Spelljammer...I could groove on that.

Still, I need basic cultural splats for homebrew goodness, so I'd like 'vanilla' Nyambe/Northern Crown/OA, too.

And I *definately* don't want them linked to FR, so no Kara-Tur, no Al Quadim, no Maztica.

But YES Oriental, Arabian, and Mayan campaigns!
