What makes a "bug" cool?

Maybe this comes as part of the "Legion" characteristic, but their relentlessness, and inability to be reasoned with. It makes diplomacy with the things simple: Shoot them, because though you can't win, you'll still live a little longer.

I still credit H.R. Giger, James Cameron and Ridley Scott with the "cool" aspect of bug-hunt style aliens. :)

Another source worth looking at would be the Tyranid Codex for Warhammer 40k. You could probably get an older print relatively cheap. They're quite similar to Starcraft's zerg.

Oh man, flashbacks of Orson Scott Card's Ender series here. I don't remember all the details, but I DO remember the hivemind.

What one worker/soldier knew the whole colony instantly knew and adapted/could react to because they were all just extensions of the Queen's personality anyway. No matter what the distance (even interstellar)

Do any of the sources sited thus far have stats for those bugs, and perhaps by extension the piggies of the latter books? Or does somebody know of any place where the attempt has been made? d20 future stats would be best, but I'll not be TOO picky!

Men In Black comes to mind. God, I love that movie, didn't care for the second one too much. Anyway, A race of bug-men that have a superiority complex but are based on a life form so old and degenerate is always interesting. Just model the bug-men on Edgar and you'll end up with gold, I guarantee it.
