What makes the Realms "Forgotten"?

Honest quesiton. Why are they called Forgotten Realms? Who or what Forgot them? They seem pretty well inhabited to me.

What other game realted names dont make a lot of sense to you?

Because there a lot of Realms in the world that are truly forgotten. I will name as many as I can:

Anchorome
Kara-Tur
Maztica
Zhakara
and all the Terra Incognita Lands

There. That's why it's called the Forgotten Realms. Because all WotC wants to cover is Faerun Faerun Faerun and simply "Forgot" about the rest.
