What monster classes do you want?

Legend
Heroes of Shadow's vampire has opened up some interesting new design space--the monster class. By turning monsters into classes rather than races, 4E can support monstrous PCs with abilities that couldn't possibly be balanced as racial powers.

So, keeping in mind that monsters only need the class treatment if they can't be balanced as races... what other monsters would you like to see class-ified? (ducks rotten tomato)

Turning corrupted from mm3 into a class could be cool. Divine powersource of course. Lich as a pure shadow class would hopefully appease the shadow purists. Alot of people want werebeasts. To go with something less dark maybe angel as a divine class, although the exalted angel ed does that pretty well, maybe some other divine based servant. Ghost and or specter or wraith could be cool. Foulspawn could be awesome for heroes of the far realms. Slow painful tranformation into Foulspawn, psionic powersource of course.

None at all. I prefer not to have every party be completely nonhuman. I suspect I'll really like the vampire mechanics and allow it on a one-time-only-in-the-campaign basis.

I'd rather have themes along this vein than new classes. Shapeshifter theme instead of changeling, shadowtouched instead of shade and shadarkai, revenant as a theme instead of race.

Tiefling and probably eladrin would also work well here.

Ideally, I'd like to just see a few generic "monster" classes that allow you to mix and match powers so you can simulate a wide variety of monsters from fiction, myth, and imagination.

Barring that, yuan-ti/medusas (venomous archers), werecreatures, and some sort of dryad/treant or fungus things. Maybe some sort of mobile skirmishing enchanter that can cover both harpies and sirens.

It's important to focus on ideas that can function like an "infection" over a base race, and overall I think it would be a mistake to have exactly one class per race, like a class for each type of werecreature.

I'm with interwyrm on this one.

That said, if class it must be, then I would like to see classes like the racial paragons from 3.x - it was a neat idea even if that was a poor execution of it.

I guess the idea goes back even further than that - was it Basic? OD&D? Where Elf and Dwarf were classes unto themselves? I think it would be a neat option.

I am not too happy with monsters as classes. Races, maybe, but not whole classes, especially with how similar all the classes are with multi-classing and such (though essentials did break this symmetry)

I just do not like to go that far with fantasy.
