IMC, Giants have shown up as social encounters more than combat.

The critter I never seem to use is the humble animal. PCs tend to not fight Druids, and the animals that they do fight are usually tainted, corrupted, fiendish or aberrant in some way (therefore no longer of type Animal).

I would say Fey creatures, not because they're uninteresting or because Plants or Constructs are more interesting, but because as universally-intelligent beings which are presumed to exist in societies I would feel less comfortable just throwing one in as opposed to a wilderness encounter with a tendriculos.

Probably oozes/jellies. Most of them aren't fun to fight (hard for non-spellcasters to do much to them, and they do things like destroy equipment), and there's no possibility for non-combat/roleplaying encounters with them.

I'm going to have to vote "other".

Why?

Simple!

Since "other" monster types have yet to be thought of, they are necessarily encountered the least.

In the past two years, I don't think I've used a construct ONCE. Everything else has been used a couple of times - Oozes are fun (lovecraft!), Giants are great to throw at a melee-based group, and how can you not like the pure strangeness that is the fey? Nah, constructs just don't do it for me.

I voted ooze, and I was not surprised to see it and Plant leading the poll.

But FEY as third place - by a long shot from 4th, etc place? That just seems so odd to me. Do others really use fey that rarely?

I know I'm in the minority, but I hate using undead. Too many PIMA abilities and negative levels are just too much bother. If I want scary skin crawling encounters, aberrations work for me. Undead are just boring.
