What monsters types have been done to death?

None, I like all kinds of monsters.

However, it takes a really unique and interesting humanoid or humanoidish creature to really... errrm interest me nowadays. Maybe if someone statted up China Mieville's humanoid creatures or Steven Erikson's humanoids, I might be excited, but as it is, most humanoids are boring.

I pretty much agree with this. There are a lot of humanoids that are just "snow goblins" or "another elf type." Amitok. Cynamolgi. Rakasta. Caiveh.

I want more humanoids like the Chagmats--spider-humanoids aren't as done-to-death as mammal-humanoids.
Or the Jor. Humanoids with prestige class abilities (swamp orcs with assassin abilities) are rare.
Or the Alcor. Primitive, mountain-skiing, cold-dwelling lizardmen. That'll stir up the PCs.

dragons, humanoids and undead have been very much overdone imo.
but for me it's really all of em', i have more then enough monsters in the first mm to last me a lifetime.

All of 'em, really. There's so many monster books out there, it's sad.

The biggest culprits, though, are aberrations, dragons, plants, and humanoids.

Aberrations never floated my boat. A few as semi-random, mysterious encounters are kinda neat. Overall, though, even the core MM has too many.

Dragons are neat. They are crucial to the game and genre, really. Enough with the subtypes, already.

Plant monsters are bizarre. Pretty much like aberrations, except that the amount in the core is fine.

Humanoids are so overpopulated, it isn't even funny. It seems like every sourcebook, now, needs to introduce five new PC races -- all of which suck. Add in the orcs, goblins, etc. out there and it's a wonder there's more than one town of any specific species.

Do you really need new examples of each type when there's still a lot you could do with what you already have?

Assignment: Work out the consequences for fully applying character class levels to humanoids according to the DMG's guidelines on character class demographics among humans.
