What movie is this scene from...

First Post
Something happened in our campaign that reminded me of a scene from a movie. First, I'll describe the scene in the movie as best as I can remember. I am hoping someone knows what movie it is from my (probably vague) description, because it is bothering me.

The scene involves a person being killed by one or more other people. The person(s) doing the killing basically botch the attempt and do not kill the person on the first shot (I can't remember what weapon they used, I think a gun, but could have been a knife). Anyway, they botch the first attempt so the person is lying there in pain bleeding to death. They try to put the person out of this misery, but each time they try and stab or shoot them (again, I forget their method) they keep making it worse. Eventually the person dies IIRC.

Anyway, if that scene sounds at all familiar from a movie, can someone let me know what movie?

The reason I bring it up is because we had a scene in our last D&D session that basically reminded me of this. I tried to coup de grace a concious but helpless foe, and I did damage on my first attack but they made their save. I quickly tried again, to kill them with a coup de grace and put them out of their misery. I did more damage, but yet again they saved! My ally was starting to think I was just being sick and toying with the person, so he said, "Here, let me try" and the same thing happened. Dealt damage, they made their Fort save for the CdG. Finally they ended up dying.

Well, in Me, Myself, and Irene, Jim Carrey's character tries, unsuccessfully, to put a cow that has been hit by a truck out of its misery. First he sees the 'dead' cow, and goes over to try t move it off the road, only to have it moo at him in pain. After a bit of freaking out, he decides the only humane thing to do is to shoot it, so he puts a bullet in its head.

He's saddened by this, but is saying how it had to be done when, with perfect comic timing, the cow moos again. Jim Carrey freaks out and fires three more shots into its head, looking shocked and then horribly chagrined. Finally the thing shuts up.

. . . only to have a cop later in the movie say, "We found a cow by the side of the road, with four gunshot wounds to its head. (Jim Carrey's character) is a real sick bastard. The poor cow barely survived."

Goodfellas has a similar scene. Joe Pesci's character beats/shoots a guy in a bar, only to realize he's still alive when they go to take him out of the truck to bury him by the side of the road. He then stabs him multiple times with a kitchen knife.

Hmm, that might be it...

There's also the story of Rasputin, who was, if I recall correctly, poisened, shot and stabbed before he threw himself in an icy river and drowned.

I remember watching a movie or something a few years ago that reminded me of that story. Perhaps we're thinking of the same thing.

I watched Hellboy over the weekend and that story was mentioned (since Rasputin was the main badguy), but it was never shown in the movie itself. So I doubt if that was the movie that is being looked for. As for myself, I can't think of one where a scene as described happened. Sorry.

the scene you're describing sounds a lot like one in the first Austin Powers movie... IIRC, Dr. Evil drops a guy through a trap door and the guy is heard off camera wailing and crying about his pain, then footsteps are heard, and the guy says something about how much pain he's in, gunshots are heard, then silence for a moment, then the guys says "You shot me!"... and it just goes on and on...
