D&D 4E What new stuff doesn't make it into 4E?

So the designer interviews have pointed out that many of the books that have come out over the past two years have inclued ideas they are or were playing with for 4E (for example, the Book of 9 Swords and SWSE). Many of the new elements will make it into the new edition in some form. But some things won't (Heinsoo mentioned Wyatt's "Starbucks system").

Looking back over some experimental ideas, what do you think hasn't worked and won't show up in 4E?

For example, I'd speculate that while the idea of a wizard power that can be used over and over like the warlock's eldritch blast will carry forward, I'd speculate that the warlock himself won't carry forward in his current form ... since at the end of the day all he really is is a bang stick.

Another thought .. .are there things in Tome of Magic or Magic of Incarnum that might/might not be previews of things to come? I don't have either book as I'm not a fan of alternate magic approaches (heck, I like Vancian magic) but I'm wondering what I might have missed out on.

What is this referring to?

The shadowcaster has some interesting concepts which might appear in a similar way in the next edition:
As they advance in levels, their 'spells' become first spell-like abilities and later supernatural abilities. They also get to use their lowest level 'spells' at will at some point in their career.

I like much of the material in Tome of Magic and Player's Handbook II. I believe the 4e books will be a little smaller than 3.5 (page count wise), so I don't see how they will fit everything into the new edition right at the start. For example, pact magic.

Maybe the classes that get the green light will incorporate some of the new ideas in these books.

With the emphasis on having something to cool to do all the time, i wonder why the Shadowcaster ever got printed in its present form. It has less to do every round than the wizard.
