Not funny at all. Remove the technological trappings & the stories set in The Many Colored land are a fantastic source of fantasy inspiration.

LeGuin's Earthsea books - Ged is the prototypical Wizard for me.
Moon's Paksennarion books - Not only for the penultimate Paladin (Paks) but for the general feel of the world. Druids are even integrated in a very D&Dish way.
Leiber's Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser - 'Nuff said.
