What Personality Would Sigil Have?

Fallen Seraph

First Post
Well yeah anyone with knowledge of Sigil, the above question is for you.

First off this Sigil does have some differences from various canons of Sigil. So should lay that down first:
  • Sigil floats between the planes. So it isn't tied to the Spire.
  • While all the Philosophies exist they aren't tied to alignment. Alignment doesn't exist at all. They are simply philosophies (just very influential ones).
  • Its own cosmology, but that isn't that important.
Now to the heart of the matter. I am making up a PC (yay! I will end up getting to play instead of just DMing) where she was essentially a empty being. Haven't figured out race and such yet but she was taught that since they had no personality (her family) they weren't truly alive. Years passed with them simply existing within their small house in the Hive (think covered in dust, cobwebs, etc).

Eventually her natural Psionic potential began to awaken and she began to "listen in". Taking fragments of memories, feelings, etc. from all those who walk the streets of Sigil. Slowly this formed a personality, filling the vacuum. Eventually with this new personality she decided to escape, to pursue her own new life.

She has ended up becoming a information broker, using her natural agility and psionic abilities to gather information. She has also though become a Sensate-addict. Having missed years of life and having lived off the memories of others she has grown addicted to Sensate orbs. To pay for the addiction alongside her normal information gathering she psychically steals memories for the Sensates.

So to come to the final question and real focus of this thread. With her developing a personality from the psychic residue of the inhabitants of Sigil and becoming a Sensate-addict. What would her personality be? What would the combined personalities of Sigil be like?

I know my Sigil, but I just can't come to decision on this.

Sigil is a very schizophrenic city with multiple personalities. Depending on which neighbourhood you visit, you can find pretty much anything you can find in any other plane. Whether you look at the architecture, the people living there and their living habits, clothes etc. you will find that everything changes and goes through the whole spectrum.

A person absorbing the city's personnality would very probably have more than one and switch according to what that person sees, hears, feels at that specific moment.

Well I am thinking mainly that overtime she wouldn't really be able to decipher that all these different memories are unique. She would literally begin to think she was born 10 years ago in Sigil, but saw the death of a Demon Lord 2000 years ago, and what not. They don't clash or become dominant/submissive they all simply exist into one melded whole. Like if you cracked her mind open you would see a melting pot not layers of different personalities, if you catch my drift.

Sigil in a single word: cynical. Sigil is the home of "been there, done that, got the t-shi'irt".

Sigil in three words: practical, fanatical, jaded. Belief runs strong because belief is power, and power helps you survive.

Cheers, -- N

Heed The Penguin.

Hmm, with being cynical I could see that working toward her mistrusting everything but what she hears coming from someone's mind. Also, it could make it hard to next to impossible for her to be persuaded away from her addiction.

With jaded that can work toward her feeling that she needs these new memories from the Sensates to actually live. Wishing to have more extreme and extreme memories.

To me, Sigil is the place where undecided souls go - the departed who do not know if they belong in Heaven or Hell. The personality of the place seems schizophrenic but is really just undecided. Each individual could tumble either way at any time, but a steady stream of new petitioners ensures Sigil always remains as undecided as it ever was.
