What qualities make a gamer awesome?

Any player who can I use as a pawn..... :D

But on a serious note, all of these comments are great. I am a firm believer that the best gamers (in terms of awesomeness) are the ones whom take an honest interest in the world, the NPC's, and the other player's characters. Two of these rely on the DM to provide something compelling, but in my experience some of the better players around the table while be interested in these things regardless.

I second all of the above, with the following clarifications:

A relaxed attitude (towards the game, not taking it too seriously in terms of art or story).

Interest in others (demonstrated by a willingness to let others realize their own goals in-game).

Lack of a sense of entitlement (demonstrated by not throwing a fit when things don't happen exactly as you would like them to).

All of these are good but at the most basic level:

At a minimum, doesn't get on my nerves.

I think that covers it. Any above and beyond that is pure gold.

Blast, Shilsen already beat me to the obvious joke!

The perfect gamer...

...gets excited for your game

...makes a character who belongs to your campaign setting, instead of a generic character who happens to exist in your campaign setting

...gives their character clear motivations and hooks for the DM to work with

...entertains everyone when he's got the spotlight

...knows when to give up the spotlight

...like the characters in the book which inspired this thread, doesn't actually exist.

Doesn't take himself too seriously, is not overburdened with dignity, and is not overly impressed with his own importance.

Come on, kids, no one's going for a golden globe, here. We're sitting around in a basement pretending to be elves. Get over yourself.

The two big things I want in my gamers. Sadly, they are all passive and do the opposite of these two points.
