D&D General What Races/Species do you think are missing from Dungeons and Dragons?

Or I could just homebrew the race I want, or find the homebrew online.

But if the standard for “missing from DnD” is “can’t be homebrewed” then you’re just rejecting the premise of the thread.
Fair enough. I just don't accept the definition "WotC hasn't made it for their version of 5e" as being equivalent to "missing from D&D".

If I want more PC species, I can go to the SRD and there are lots of them, but if I am a collector, then I would rather to spend my money in sourcebooks style "Moderkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse".

I am not a true player, and then I can't say a right opinion about when the design of a PC specie is rightly balanced but I can tell my opinion about when the concept could be enoughly interesting. And other point is Hasbro wants PC species protected by trademarks to sell possible merchandising in the future.

Other option could be a recycled version of mythu'nn folk from Red Steel/Savage Coast, with some nerfing touch if this was necessary.

(half-)Tayfolk from Dragonlance could be interesting for one player with two PCs (who share a telepatic link)

Other idea is like awakened animals, but with some partial shapesifting traits allowing opposible dumbs to use weapons and tools. Ponyweres?

Too bad. You are hugely self-limiting if you only care about WotC. Virtually everything you want is available outside Fort WotC, and the small bits that aren't are easy enough to make yourself.
True. I could create the races that I want for the game without the need for Wizards to make it. It just makes me perplexed why it took so long for Wizards to make a dog race.

The phanatons (Mystara/Isle of Dread) could be a good option if Hasbro wants a "cute" PC specie to sell toys.

There was a prestige class from the complete psionic where PC could get some illithid traits.

WotC is the owner of the PC races from "Xenophilia", an article published in Dragon #317.

T'kel are an interesting concept, but the racial traits show nothing new. I say the same about golmoids and gruwaars.

Adu'jas are plant humanoids, one of the few examples of plant PC specie but it should be nerferd to can be updated to 5ed.

Xvarts and norkers shouldn't be forgotten in the list of evil feys.

D'hin (Dragon #350) could be an interesting planetouched specie/bloodline/lineage in the right hands.

Dogfolks can't be protected by trademarks because the cinocephalies are creatures from classic mythologies and folklore. And they would need some special trait to be not reskins of lupines from Mystara.

I like the Chwinga. Perhaps this can be a playable species.

I also want other Elemental species. And if Genasi, they respectively need to fully become air, fully become plasma, fully become water, fully become rock.

Any powerful effects can come at higher levels − thats fine. But the feel of being the element itself is important.

Clearly only one answer will suffice.

If WotC wants its own version of Leshy by Pathfinder, then the solution could be a reimagination of the bogun from the complete divine. This also would the adventage to be crafted with pieces of giant vernims, adding a more exotic touch.
