What really happened to the god Mask in FR?

Is it? I don't know how it's presented, but it reminds me a little of the typical "mysteries left for you to explore", like "what really happened in the Mournland?".

I like this kind of stuff. Leaving this open (both in the book and for later) means you recognize: Here's a plot hook. We don't resolve it for you, you can go on and make up your own.

It's not the designers he's referring to but it's the novel writers who might pick it up at some point.

Paul Kemp (iirc) still has another novel due out soon that is supposed to wrap up the whole "where's waldo" phenomenon. I like the idea of Mask subverting the Cyricists though but with the way clerical magic works in 4E it isn't necessary for the divine entity to grant powers to their worshippers (boo-hiss).

There's a lot of good theories floating around right now so we'll see who got it right soon enough.

...No, I was actually refering to the designers ;p. The idea that novels have to shape a setting because the Campaign Setting book doesn't is asinine.

Mournland was meant to be mysterious. They TOLD you to make what you wanted of it. Mask, on the other hand, literally has no mention at all. He doesn't seem to he missing on purpose, but accidentally, like the developers just kinda forgot he was there :p

The designers did that work. They know what happened to Mask. The fact that they elected to keep the majority of the 100 years unclear is entirely separate from that.

As stated earlier, Paul Kemp's book will apparently answer the question of Mask's fate.

He's mentioned when they talk about the Shadowfell, and the fact that Mask's home still exists (despite all dead god domains having crumbled away), and that his Chosen still use it as a base.

Emphasis mine...

That's very telling to me, as Elminster is specifically mentioned as not being considered Chosen after Mystra's death. I'm hoping that Mask decided to go to ground until things cooled off, but we'll find out in December when the final installment of The Twilight War comes out. :)
