What setting is the PHB set in?

greycastle

First Post
Currently our DM wants to start a new campaign but with the 'normal' dieties, ie. Pelor, kord, etc. The world in which most published adventures are set. However i'm having a dispute about what world it actaully is set in.

I saw it's in Greyhawk.

He says its a 'nuetral' world.

What is it?

now thats a greyhawk fan answer fro ya.

the answer according to WotC, is Greyhawk. It amy be a neutered Greyhawk, or a crap version of it, but they say it's greyhawk so i guess it is!

The gods are from Greyhawk, the rest is just generic none-campaign world related information. It is not as if there are that many references to a specific world... Anyway, you will need a lot more information before you could run a campaign that would be considered a Greyhawk campaign ;)

Technically, the default D&D world is Greyhawk. However, GH is generic enough that it really makes little difference.

Most published adventures don't have any particular world dependencies. The adventure locales can be placed in almost any generic world. Good ones will even tell you where to place the locale (near a city, on a caravan track, whatever) to help the adventure background make sense.

Higher-level adventures may depend on a certain cosmology, because they make assumptions about how planar travel works. That shouldn't affect you unless your DM is planning to redesign the whole multiverse.

Yea, I'd say you're both true, partially, but not completely. They use many elements of the Grayhawk campaign setting, but try to keep world-specific elements out of the core rules. It's somewhere between a totally neutral setting and Grayhawk. You could call it Diet Grayhawk or something.
