A while ago the community put together an excellent thread with encounters from the Monster Manual, covering it from A-Z. Earlier this year I atttempted to do so with Tome of Horrors, with spotty support. Honestly, I think Tome of Horrors was a poor choice because many of the monsters were somewhat "boring" (it's a great resource, but it didn't quite fly - how many beetles can you do in a row?).

I'd like to start another thread with community support, so I'll put it to you. Which monster book would you like to see done as the next "Monster Encounters from A-Z" thread?

I'd like to see a none wizards one, like Inner Circle's Denizens of Avendu or possibly Goodman Games Monster's of the Endless Dark.

The problem with that is that severly limits the number of people able to participate.

I picked the Tome of Horrors for my last attempt because I figured most here would have it, and that those that didn't could probably run with the monsters converted from classic sources. That didn't work very well. There were 3 or 4 of us doing most of the work, with very little participation from anyone else.

Why limit it to a single book? Why not let the next poster decide? For example, you might do Abiel (MMII), and I could follow it up with blackstone gigant (FF), while the next person chooses bonedrinker (MMIII). You might fly through the list rather quickly, but can have Z roll over to A again and keep in going as long as folks are interested.

Just a thought. :)

I know, but I find the Wizards books to be a little boring. Heck, maybe if you select a third party gaming book that is in print you can get a few people to buy it and help out. You could even ask people to review it and maybe even get Psion or Joe assuming they haven't already to write a review on said book. You can also see if the writer or publisher is willing to play along and get some fun discusion going. :D

Because it's a great resource, but that only works if someone can find the encounter. I can bring out the MM list and look for 'H' if I want to use a Howler. With your idea, someone very likey didn't decide to do Howler, and it might not be easy to find if they did.

Savage Species, but also interested in MMII (which I voted for).

Where can I find the thread for the older one?

Savage Species was mostly templates, not new monsters, right? It wouldn't be very long.

The Tome of Horrors disappeared in the board crash. The MM one is on the web somewhere. Someone has a link in their sig, IIRC. I wasn't able to find it last I looked.

If I can ever figure out what's up with my access problems and Malhavoc's EZBoard (and other EZBoards, for that matter), I was thinking of starting threads for each WotC monster book on how to use each monster in Praemal/Ptolus. Something like that, but for Greyhawk or Krynn or other non-FR/Eberron (since they're covered in MM3 and MM4) would probably be useful to a lot of folks, even to people not using the setting, since it'd give ideas on how a given critter fits into a campaign setting.
