The only possible way to reduce the number of people calling it 5e is to actually give it another edition in the title page (not on the cover--that is unneeded and undesirable). If they called in something like Dungeons & Dragons: Legacy Edition, people might call it LE instead of 5e. Might.

If they put nothing inside the cover but "First publication August 2014," it will be called 5e by everyone. They've got to realize that.
 

Just Dungeons and Dragons.

Because only existing players will care about edition numbers, and if they care about the issue they will call it whatever they want anyway.

Why do you feel this is a problem, or that it needs solving? Are you under the impression that there's a faction of WotC employees desperate that nobody refer to their baby as "5E"?

It'll be referred to as 5E by us. It'll just be "D&D" to those not already playing it and who don't care about previous editions
