D&D 5E What Should We Call Next/5e

Why do you feel this is a problem, or that it needs solving? Are you under the impression that there's a faction of WotC employees desperate that nobody refer to their baby as "5E"?

It'll be referred to as 5E by us. It'll just be "D&D" to those not already playing it and who don't care about previous editions

But what will you put in it's little icon and call it in the little pull-down menus?

5e feels more like a Maude to me. Or maybe an Agnes, depending on its astrological sign.

A major brand is capable of changing the numbering system mid-stream if they want to do it. And it's possible to get people to buy into that renumbering system.

How is he acting counterproductive to attaining it in this case?

I just meant that people will use some subdesignation to refer to the edition. There's no way around that. We have to communicate which edition we mean. 5e is the most obvious choice. If they don't want it to be 5e, but they provide no other choice, people will call it 5e. If they want something other than 5e, they need to come up with a name that is simple enough and compelling enough that people won't mind adopting it in lieu of 5e.

So if he chose to not give it any edition designation, and he doesn't want it called 5e, he has acted counterproductive to the attainment of his goal.

Now, I seriously doubt that is actually the case. Either they've just decided put 5e inside, and he meant he doesn't want it on the cover of the product, or whatever.
