What the World needs: E6 in Book Format

How I see myself going about things:

1: Planning out how I'm going to do things (Probably using the_orc_within's notes as a base.

2: Writing the rules in sections, maybe a chapter per document in MS Word.

3: Translating what I wrote out into HTML for a website.

4: PDF-izing the "rule book" as a single document

5: Holding it for ransom, until I get the funds to host a website (lets say a year worth of fees + advertising spots)

6: Go live, offering E6RPG for free on my website, or the PDF for a small fee (I'd love to get paid for my work), set up a print on demand through lulu or something similar.

So at this point, I'll just ask point blank: Shall we get this going?
I'm ready, willing and able to do the work.

So... I've decided to start working on this. Unless anyone has any strong objections, I'll keep working on it through completion.

I'm going to keep it 3.5 for now, mostly because you need to sign a document and get permission to make things (officially) compatable with pathfinder, so one less hurdle to jump is good (for me at least). If anything, when time passes we can make a revised Pathfinder-friendly(er) version... or options (Ie. "E6RPG: The Pathfinder Sourcebook") with all their classes, cmb, cmd and whatever else. But for now, I'll stick with the "use what you like" SRD without the "compatable with" restrictions. Besides... isn't Pathfinder supposed to be backwards-compatable anyway?

I'm fully willing to take the whole project on my shoulders, but does anyone insist on helping? Does anyone want to help? If so, maybe we should take it off of the boards and use something like Skype to talk about what to include or modify.

Anyway, I'm starting my research and notes now.

Edit: Checked over the E6 document I had kicking around for a while, it's copyright Ryan Stoughton. Is anyone on these forums this person? I do believe we may need permission from this guy to make an RPG out of his idea.

You are incorrect. Ideas can't be copyrighted.

Words can, so I recommend you don't copy & paste anything original of his for this write up, but the rules for the first six levels of 3.x D&D weren't his words or his ideas.

Cheers, -- N

Actually, I just finished hunting down the guy and politely asking him permission anyway. At the very least, my conscious will feel better about this project.

Indeed, what is legal is not the same as what is polite, and being polite is often better.

Hopefully Ryan contributes. He has a bit of experience in this area. :)

Lord Xtheth, I'll be forging ahead as well, though along a different line than you it looks like, and a end-product. I'll be trying to keep an open discussion about an E6 SRD either here in General or in Legacy, so please feel free to pop in to compare notes.

BTW, I'd be happy to share work on stripping down the "inflexible" bits (base classes and spell lists, basically), if you need/want it. My early attempts at that have shown it to be tedious, but straightforward.

Sounds good to me. My plans included an SRD, but if you wanted to go ahead and do it along side this, no problems here.

What I'll be doing is essentially re-writing the rules from scratch, keeping to the SRD as much as I can, maybe simplifying or cutting down some things. (ie. Fireball: Deals 5d6 damage, +1d6 at level 6. [end of statement]). Copy/pasting might happen frequently as well cuz I'm lazy, and allowed.

This should be a fun little project, and it'll help my other RPG project along, that I'm using the SRD to fuel slightly (an OGL based game thats very different than D&D, but keeps to the same ideas).
