What to do with a cat?

If you make the Cat immortal, what's to stop them from putting it in a bag and carrying it around with them, removing it occasionally to throw at, through or into suspected traps?

You can have the cat be a poooowerful wizards familiar, which the wizard id using to watch over the partys activities. Since it is a powerful wizards cat it should be about immortal (mostly because all cats in my games are immortal - I won't allow them to die or get hurt - Can't help it, just can't make myself do anything else:p). Also, the wizard could channel speech through the cat, having it suddenly make intelligent comments with flawless speech, then going back to meowing and purring and all the things cats do.

Have the cat do the same thing repetitively - It walks 10', turns left, sniffs the ground, meows, walks 10' back, licks it front paws for a minute, repeat. This could be an association with a geas that missed a targetted character. Or the cat is actually a physical representation of a ghost/poltergeist that is nearby. If the characters decide to move it, attack it, whatever, it still does the same thing, but as soon as they leave the room or take their eyes off of it for a bit, it comes back. If they complete a certain task related to the cat, then the cat-ghost could appear to be put to rest - "ROARAAWWLLL!!!!!" And have them do the same thing 9 times, fight included.

Have it drive the players insane by singing the Meow Mix song over and over again.

"I Love Chicken
I love liver
Meow Mix Meow Mix please deliver...

Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow...."

:D

I've got a friend who plays/played an alchemist out of a 1E 3rd party suppliment. Taking a couple of pages out of that book, how's this: unaging, immune to physical harm (or perfect regen), and shielded so that no further magics can effect it (or escape from it).

In 3E terms, I'm sure that something like this could be done with an epic spell or two. Maybe the cat was the test subject for a band of 50th level wizards who were felled before they got a chance to perform the ritual on themselves. Or maybe they weren't :).

I'd make it a 2nd level cat. It gained its level by killing commoners in those Cat vs Commoner battles. No doubt there's a bounty on its poor little head.

I would reserve that particular torture for the first paranoid PC who attempts a Speak with Animals or Detect Thoughts spell. You know they're going to try, don't you... :D

Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow
Meow Meow Meow....

Great. Now I've got "Everybody Wants to Be Cat" running though my head.

(Ever noticed that it's got pretty much identical chords to "The Cat Came Back"?)

Ah. Rinky. Tinky.

Tinky.

How about a "Dorian Grey" treatment? Every time the PC does something evil-ish, the cat gets a little more decrepit and ornery.

Hmm...have the cat be an unusually happy and friendly cat. Slowly, the players will drop their guard, and pick up the cat and hug it...and that's when the BBEG detonates his cat-bomb.
