What to do with followers?

Ahem. I guess you're not THAT sort of wizard! OK, my serious answer. Steal shamelessly from Harry Potter. Try to talk the DM and your fellow players into playing a game with students as PC's. Invent at least one school athletic activity that requires magic to participate.
hmm.. good idea, it might get me some role-play xp ;)

But the students aren't the one's i'd want to become PCs, or a cohort. Just one future bright student.. maybe.

But the students there would generate income for me. Their parents would pay to have them trained not only by these expert teachers, but by my character in the basics of the magic arts.

Also, for role-playing religious reasons, i may be able to charge a little more. My character is a follower of the old gods, an Arcane Devotee actually, so those still feverously loyal would come to me with wishes for their children to be taught "right".

We'll see.. we'll see..

If you want a school with a magical sport, why not pick Bahly, from Tournaments, Fairs, & Taverns, available in pdf at RPGNow, or in print at your Friendly Local Gaming Store.
I'll take a look :)

I must say, you have one of the better ideas for followers I've heard of. Most people I've heard of just kinda had people hanging around to help them fight, which seems kinda boring.
Thanks. :) I'm trying to do something with them that seems right. Taking them around to help fight seems stupid, especially when i'd have to teleport them most of the time.

Or you could just have them work and take in a percentage of their earnings. Sounds reasonable to me. You provide bed and board and they're loyal to you, you take say 50% of their Profession or Craft earnings. It's not huge, but over 5 years it's not too bad.
That was a thought. I can still do that, in conjunction with my "school" idea. I could hire a smith who could live on the premises, providing some weapons to the guards (warrior followers trained by my cohort), and some profit too. That kinda thing. Thanks :)
