What topics would you like to see in future DIgital Insider columns

In the first 17 columns of Digital Insider that Randy penned, I think most people will aggree that it was a huge step forward in communication between players and the dev team. After they starte coming out regularly, it seemed as if permission had also been given to a lot more DDI staff to interact with us on the forums. mdonais, elf, the ever-present WotC_DM, are just a few that have spent some of their precious time answering questions, teasing us with screenshots, and keeping us up-to-date with what is going on.

It is known by now that Randy will no longer be penning future Digital Insiders, which leaves the door open for someone else to step into his shoes and into the line of fire, so to speak.

What types of topics/discussions would you like to see in future issues of Digital Insider??

I will collect the responses and pass them along to the CM team at WotC, to encourage them to keep this feature in their plans.

Here are some things that I liked about the first 17 volumes of Digital Insider:

  • Sneak peeks and previews of the Character Builder application;
  • Information about upcoming application releases;
  • Information and updates on what they are working on fixing; and
  • Answering some common problems and questions raised by the community.

Here are some things that I would like to see in future issues of Digital Insider:

  • Rough estimates of when other parts of the tools will be ready;
  • More info on bugs/problems that are being worked on at the moment;
  • Profiles of people working on DDI (jobs, education, hobbies, games they like playing, geek cred, that sort of thing).

You already mentioned it, but I would definitely like to hear (generally, at least) about the sorts of issues/bugs that are being faced in development of the various tools. I'm particularly interested in hearing about the Game Table; I'm chomping at the bit for this tool!

People are starting to doubt whether the Game Table tool will ever be released. I don't want to believe that it won't, and I think that more updates regarding that tool will do a lot to alleviate the doubts.

Not sure if this is appropriate, but:

MAPS

I'm talking tons of hi-res, untagged, awesome maps. Not craptastic 10-minute jobs, but not fantastical pieces of art, either.

I thought Randy's DDI news updates where a tremendous step forward in communication with the fans. I saw a lot less gripping in the forums because there was two way communication going on.

I don't really need dates or estimates for when the tools will be done, but 'progress reports' would be awesome. I'd like to understand WHY things are late. D&Der's are generally pretty tech-savy, and a few of the details that have lead to delays would be nice to know.

I think their approach of concentrating on getting one tool out the door, then going onto the next seems wise at this stage. Since the character visualizer is next on the slate, I'd like a snap-shot of where this project is currently, and a list of items to do before it can go Insider-beta.

From my observation, fans are happiest when WotC is transparent and communicative, even if the communication is to deliver bad news.
