What Type of Action is this?

Howdy!

In my last game we had a situation where one character became disarmed of his only weapon and another player handed him his. During the game I rolled randomly to determine what it would be, but now I seek a real answer. My question is:

What type of action would be handing an ally a weapon or item?

What type of action would be taking a item from an ally?

Would either provoke an AoO?

Thanks!

If both have a BAB above +1, then it's a free action that must be with a move action, for both. just like drawing a weapon, without quickdraw.

Onviously this is not in the books and requires DM adjudication.

I would require at least one of the PCs to spend a move action -- probably the one picking up the weapon. This resembles the same as if person A dropped it & person B picked it up; or if person A just held it out (free) and person B effectively had to draw it (move).

If the post had not been acting wonky, I would have answered the same thing. Also, the character that receives the weapon should delay his action until the other character gives him his.
