I like the "traditional" D&D games. I will second the "good story=good game sentiment.

But occasionally our group likes a twist.

Hence- a Rokugan mini-campaing Jovah style

Well... I was going to say "See Sepulchrave's story hour," but apparently I've been beaten to it. That, though, is some wonderful D&D.

Hmm, what's the difference between standard fantasy with a twist and non-standard fantasy?

I've a feeling that all these categories are murky enough that we all mean different things here.

Always a possibility. It's a difference of degree, to be sure, so maybe it means different things to different people. I'd say a non-standard fantasy is something quite a bit out there, like Deadlands or Weird War, for instance. Something that's clearly fantasy but has very few to none of the regular, standard D&D tropes. Whereas, standard fantasy with a twist is just standard fantasy with a quirk added to it to add a little spice or flavor.

I'll play any game that does not involve slaying monsters and gaining xp as its sole redeeming feature. I can go home and play Baldur's Gate if I want to go do that.

Overall, I'd say standard fantasy for our group...but we also run campaigns with plenty of twists for flavor and variety. Perhaps the balance is 60/40 in favor of standard fantasy.
