Variants of OD&D (my own A Minimalist Fantasy Affair with some of the classes from the Companion) and B/X (James V. West's Black Pudding) this year, but not currently (I'm writing games for other people currently).

The campaign I'm DMing uses 2014 D&D. We advance at a very slow pace. Our current campaign started in early 2020 and the players have only made it to 9th level (we play at most a couple of hours every other week, and we had a ~1.5-2 years hiatus during covid).

Hopefully the campaign will draw to a close within a few months. After that, my plan is to have several one-shots/mini-campaigns using different systems, some very close to 5e (e.g. Exodus) other very different (Phoenix Dawn Command). We'll see if my players are onboard.

I'm also playing in a 2014 Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. The DM is looking into 2024, but since we are still 4th level I think it will be a while before we move to that.

It seems to me that if you need to keep changing the rules in order to keep a game interesting then there is something fundamentally wrong. I’m playing 5e 2014 because that is what I have. If I had any other version (apart from 3e or 4e) I would happily play that instead.

I don't need to keep changing the rules, but my goal is to model every aspect of the setting as closely as possible (within practical limits), and I enjoy tweaking things and looking for new mechanics that help me with that goal. Worldbuilding, simulation of said worlds, and putting mechanics to my favorite stories are the reasons why I got into this hobby, and no game is going to be perfect for that unaltered.

I enjoy fiddling with rules, too, so I get it. Fiddle away, sir!

I agree with both of you.

Apparently I don't know how to multiquote.
