From my (VERY brief) read (aka skimming) of OSRIC, I was under the impression that it pulled from the SRD. At least the author states that is what they did when they were unable to get around the artistic presentation limitation of the copyright of the game? Was that not for mechanics, but rather for naming of things, and other small details like that?

Basically that's the gist of it ;) Mechanics may change in expression particularly when a mechanic does not rely on an algorithm (such as experience tables). But in all cases mechanics maintain similar probabilities, etc.

Yep, and I am finding I much prefer the new clones over the originals, mostly for the improvement in organization and written clarity, but also when changes were made I find that I agree that they were made for the better, with very few exceptions. At least with regards to me and my tastes. Others I am sure disagree with me, but I don't care. I'm happy with how I have spent my money. OSRIC, Basic Fantasy, S&W Complete, White Box, LL, Dark Dungeons, I like owning all of them.

C&C is still my favorite "alternative" because when combined with my personal house rules it gives me everything I want, but I have enjoyed playing the others every once in a while as well, mostly at conventions. Actually, I haven't had an opportunity with S&W Complete yet, only an earlier version. The first version of S&W in book form.

The only edition of D&D I'm playing --well, running-- as of two weeks ago, is AD&D 1st Edition, with Unearthed Arcana, sans Wilderness/Dungeoneering Survival Guides.

My group also has a Savage Worlds/Slipstream on hold, until the GM gets back to town. Oh, and a D&D 4e campaign paused on the brink of a glorious, goblin-powered, ecclesiastical Communist revolution.

If I had a group (sniffle), we'd be playing Pathfinder or a Pathfinder/3.5e mashup.

I tried 4e, but didn't desire to continue with that system.

You are absolutely right that it is your poll and you can structure what you want to know any way you like. I only wanted to comment on this part of what you say because it tells me you may not be familiar enough with some of the clones to understand how they fit into the broad scheme.
That's my read as well. Pathfinder being "more D&D" than OSRIC is baffling, unless the crappy organization of 1E is somehow inherent to its D&Dness.

If it were my poll -- and it's not -- I would have at least included C&C and "other retroclone" entries.

Its a shame you do not have "lapsed" in the poll. I still like to talk D&D but I rarely play it anymore.
