What was the best character you played...

Mine is Aust Diamondew (hence my account name) the elven fighter/sorcerer it was shortly after 3e came out. I played him from level one to twelve then the campaign just sorta ended. He nearly died once trying to slow down a large group of orcs so the rest of the party could escape when he was around level 6 but miraculousy (thank god my dice were so lucky) won. Towards the end of the game he started doing the spring attack and haste combo and the last very memorable thing he did was (party had got split up in the dungeon) to single handidly take on a cloud giant (I love haste and expeditious retreat :D )

My best character?

A cleric by the name of Rozhena Ashford. Didn't use her last name for quite some time (took awhile to come up with one). She came from the land of Cormyr in the FR world and the only one of the party of 4 to not die until the last "adventure/summary" of the game when the DM basically removed the whole group sans one to their deity's realm at the end of the campaign. Was responsible for the killing blow to the archdemon Gargauth after it decided to possess our party fighter. Figured that she could bring back the fighter but the greater evil had to go. The first time she "met" Gargauth, he asked the group to "join him or die". Her only response was to flip him off. Then repeated the gesture to the departing spirit after she offed him. For a cleric, she can use quite "uncouth" four-letter vocabulary..... :p Quite a colorful character.

Same one as in sig.

not a ninja, never actually had the opportunity to play one. i should rectify that one soon.

Remmy, a shrill voiced, scottish/mexican mixed accent having, loudmouthed, fire tossing drunkard psychotic freak created under the 2e revised rules. couldn't go on consecrated ground, animals refused to go near him, but he could cast in full plate. he started out a lawful good misunderstood reject from a small town seeking refuge in the large refined city. half way through the first session i had cast all but one my spells, was alone, was being advanced upon by the guards and i just started screaming at them in character (reasonable volume of course) and bluffed my way out of what was going to be a quick death. reached the door, saw the rest of the party and screamed "they are over here!" intending to set the party upon the guards. the guards rushed the party and nearly tpked us, all under 3 hp (my starting point) then the baron, who's keep we were storming came up through a trap door. my color spray took him down and we arrested .

he was killed by drow. ressurescted to battle said drow (new con score of 7), killed again by said drow, ressurected (con 6), killed again, reincarnated as a half giant, transformed by dragons into a nearly human looking half dragon, killed by elves when the dm decided he had to many magic items (is 35 to many at level 9?) and teleported to a world twice where he became two gods (destruction, hate, anger, madness), (magic, artiface, innovation) due to varrying circumstances. one party mocked and ridiculed him (the primarily LAWFUL GOOD party), one treated him well and helped him deal with his issues (only one "good" character in that party) so when all the gods sacraficed themselves to prevent an npc from killing the world in a war between dragons, he picked up the slack twice. the two gods merged and ended up killing the world as the dm's way of ending that homebrew setting after 3 years of campaigning. i finally had closure at long last.

well, let's get this started.

in D&D, combat focused, it's a tie between my current character, Alistyr, Monk of the Shining Spires Monastary and Helgrin, Half-Orc Barbarian4/Fighter7

In D&D, RP focused, Helgrin again(he was a half-orc who was raised by orcs until he was about 6 or 7, before his family was wiped out by another clan of orcs, and he was then taken in by a human family(ranger if I remember correctly) and trained to track and kill all orcs. basically, he despised everything about his orc heritage and anytime he found any he went out of his way to slaughter them without a second thought. there is more, but that is the general idea. made for some great RP). Alistyr was climbing the ranks, but my group just changed DMs from a mix of RP and hack-&-slash to one that is almost purely H&S.

My other favorite character comes from Shadowrun. A cybered human woman calling herself "Loki". LONG back story to her, as she was the second character I created after I started playing Shadowrun and I played her until I started GMing, at which point I retired her to NPC status. she shows up at different times to offer runs at times.

In keeping with the format that Loki_Wolf has above, I'll go Combat, RP, absolute favorite.

Combat in D&D: Mianach Daionis, a NG Elven Fighter/OotBI. He's a mounted archer and just tends to rapid shot people into submission. Very powerful, but fun to RP as well - good, gentle, but more than a little enamored with his own prowess!

RP in D&D: Karandur, LG Half-Celestial/Half-Dwarven Cleric of Moradin. He's a hard man. Lawful Good, not Lawful NICE. He cared for people, and obeyed the laws of his god (and those that were considered just by comparison to Moradins precepts), but he had no time for those who were not willing to help themselves. He gave to charity and freely used healing spells to cure illnesses, but he wouldn't lift a finger to help a beggar unless they were willing to promise under Zone of Truth that they would try to turn their life around. Or he'd just Geas them into doing so anyway. It was for the *greater* good, after all - and he wouldn't harm them.

Absolute favorite character?

Hiram, Seraph of Destiny, Friend of the Sages.
He's an emotionally tortured good guy. As hard as he has to be, not quite as smart as he thinks he is, and never as wise as he needs to be. He has watched his oldest friends and comrades fall around him by death or true Falling (to become a Demon). His first Archangel hates him, his former Archangel is insane, and his current one is enigmatic to the extreme. He believes in Free Will, but doubts his beliefs more and more as time goes on.

Incredibly fun to play! I have been playing the same character for two years now, at two sessions per week (minus a few breaks to play other systems).

By the way - if you haven't tried In Nomine, and have an open mind about religion (I know that this is NOT the place to discuss religion, so I won't), then I heartily recommend In Nomine.

Tony Le Mesmo, Malkavian hypnotist, stage magician and escape artist. Even I didn't know what he was going to do in any given session. The other characters hated him. Ah, the nihlistic days of Vampire, makes an old goth feel warm, should that be cold, inside :)
Nigel

Lothar Ironhand... Lawful Dwarf.

he was converted into a Fighter/Thief when we added the 1edADnD rules.

he died in Ravenloft after killing Strahd and attempting to leave the Castle.

Asilud Sunnilda Gelud-Diedelindadottur, my 2e female svirfneblin cleric/illusionist. She healed, she scouted (in wraithform), and she was a master of the classic "lizards in a chorus line" illusion. She adventured through about 1/3rd of the Night Below adventure before running into an illithid in the City of the Glass Pool, whereupon the (other)cleric was stranded on the Ethereal Plane, the dwarf was rendered unconcious, the elves were brain-sucked, and Asi, in an act of desperation, grabbed the dwarf and dimension-doored into a stone wall -- stranding them on the Astral Plane, where they were captured by githyanki.

:D
Nell.

Mine was Syrath.

He was a fighter/cleric of Hieroneous. His father was a great leader of men and his brother was a paladin. He always felt like he needed to live up to them and fell short. He wasn't good enough to be a paladin because his thirst for glory and victory sometimes drove him to do less than good things.

I was planning on having him turn from LN to LE and start worshipping Hextor. The group had some less than upstanding people in it and he was starting to be more willing to go along with their plans. However, in a big battle he was paralized and taken by the BBEG and I wound up playing another character (at least until we could get him back) but the campaign stopped (we take turns DM'ing) and now he's an NPC in that DM's new campaign.

Stennar

I've a toss up between two.

First up is my first character, Valgoth Tansden - the angriest, most arse-kicking, evil-smiting paladin to run through The Adventure Begins Here.

Oh, the times since then when I've wondered why I didn't fall. He was torn with indescision about what to do with a self-admitted thief in this dungeon (Second ever adventure I'd ever played) - the first ever "He's not evil" that I ever had. I killed the bastard anyway, and then with the help of my (apparently) chaotic good brother raided the dungeon myself.

But as I grew to understand paladins a little more good old Valgoth grew up a bit himself. In the end stopping at 14th level as Commander of the purple dragon knights in Cormyr :D.

The second was Stennar Ironfist, a Dragonlance Dwarf with the goal of joining the seperated dwarven clans together. Dwarven stubbornness being what it was, I found an ancient dwarven stronghold underneath a minotaur city (If I remember correctly) and started my own race of Dwarves - after slaying the gully dwarf king as he begged at my knees and personally depriving the minotaur nation of an emperor.

Ahh, good times. I think jumping off my own young adult dragon mount onto a Mature blue, taking a bolt of lightning, cutting the harness straps on the dragonlords armour and plummeting a hundred feet into ocean whilst strangling him and then swimming to the surface victorious - on half hit points - was a particularly cool moment. Dwarves are tough. Dwarven Barbarian/Rogues are better.
